PARIS – A VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE CITY OF LOVE FOR THE FIRST-TIMERS

It was our first time to the city of love and an ultimate dream destination of all age groups. It was going to be the most memorable trip as our parents were accompanying us to fulfill their wish to meet the ‘Iron Lady’. We all have grown up dreaming ourselves posing with the Eiffel tower, haven’t we?

We boarded the High-Speed Train (bullet train) from Geneva to Paris and turned out to be a superb experience. We reached Paris around 9.30 am. We had to cover few attractions before we could check into our rooms as the check-in time was late afternoon.

We took Metro line 1 from Gare de Lyon to station Charles de Gaulle Etoile. Once out of the station we were greeted with an imposing glimpse of the massive Arc de Triomphe. The arc with its stunning architecture is an honor for those who fought and died for France.

We boarded the hop on hop off bus from Arc de Triomphe to continue our sightseeing. On board, our parents plugged in the headphones and got busy with the recorded commentary of the attractions while we had a look at the map, which highlighted the attractions and their respective stops.

Our first stop was the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais. We walked around the palace and took some pictures.

Pont Alexandre III the remarkable arch bridge dotted with stunning statues was at a walkable distance. We spend some time watching the ferries move under the bridge and boarded the bus to stop by at Trocadero for wonderful vistas of the Eiffel tower and the city.

By now it was noon and we decided to check into our rooms. We always book an apartment as it well equipped with a kitchen, which makes it easy to prepare food when traveling with kids.

We freshened up and took metro line 6 to the station Bir Hakeim which is nearest to the Eiffel tower.

On reaching the tower, we got into the queue for tickets to climb to the top which did not take long. The spectacular panoramic view of the white city from the top of the tower, the bridges running on the river serene, the sailing cruises and the cool breeze, all left us in awe.

We finally got down as it was time for our cruise. We were enquiring about the boarding spot for the cruise company when suddenly we heard everyone screaming and flashing their cameras. We turned around to see Eiffel tower sparkling with golden light. This incredible moment left a delible mark on our hearts and souls.

We got onto the cruise just in time and started our awesome journey over the calm river. We passed through several enchanting bridges and monuments, which looked alluring, lit with lights. We were spellbound by the fabulous city.

We finished with our cruise tour and were back standing in front of Eiffel tower. There was something about this structure, which would not stop to mesmerize us. With a heavy heart, we bid our goodbyes to the ‘Iron Lady’ and returned to our apartment.

Next day morning we got up early and took metro line 4 to station Odeon to visit Luxembourg garden. We spent relaxing time breathing the early morning fresh air. Chhavi was the one to enjoy the most running around on green lawns.

Notre Dam was a km away from Luxembourg garden so we chose to walk.

Notre Dam, a historic Catholic cathedral overwhelmed us with its sculptures, colorful stained glasses and the tranquil atmosphere.

We took some pictures and boarded the bus to our next stop Louvre museum.

Louvre museum is one of the finest art galleries in the world with its architecture epitomizing the history of the glorious city. We walked around the palace admiring the marvellous architecture.

Hop on hop off bus has an advantage that we get to see a lot more sights than if we had decided to walk around to each of the individual landmarks. We had not visited the inside of museums as they would need a dedicated time with a separate tour altogether.

Visitors to Paris need to beware of pickpocketers and careful of their possessions. We have heard many instances of people been robbed of their belongings.

Do you think we covered all the eminent attractions or did we miss something? Do share with us in comments.
